A trip around Johannesburg to land in the lap of luxury
My wife who is six months pregnant landed us an
exclusive nights stay at the brand new Davinci hotel in Sandton. Having
stayed at its sister hotel the Michelangelo our expectations of the new
addition were very high to say the least. Having visited a couple of the
Legacy Hotels excellence is expected from first class service to
stunning finishes this is what the Legacy Brand is all about. But
I will begin unfortunately at our first stop on the way to the lap of
luxury, the Baby Expo at the Coca Cola Dome.
One would think this event has been done countless
times and the organizers would know what to expect, thousands of freaked
out parents at their wits end herding their kids to and through the
expo to find that amazing deal. Well I can safely say it was a complete
disaster from arrival, if you were one of the lucky ones to get parking
at the show then the next hurdle would have been to pay your R50 a head
to get through the door, comical is a 15 minute wait but just plain
useless is a 45minute wait just to pay ones money and enter the show. As
one extremely irate father with a 1 year old baby said to the clearly
dazed and confused security guard -where are the managers
?- the guard replied -they sorting the problem
out !- irate man replies -well its clear to see the
problem is right here! Take our money and just let us in !!- Such
a simple task blundered beyond belief. The organizers should be
embarrassed and the exhibitors fuming at a very badly organized show.
With thousands of visitors clearly wanting to spend their money there
they couldnt take the money quick enough. On the Baby city stand you
could expect over an hour wait to purchase that fancy un spill able R30
kiddies bowl PATHETIC.
After heading for the door and swearing we would
never return all I could think of was the upcoming luxury stay at the
Davinci Hotel and relaxing in the bliss of Sandton. Ahh and
what a pleasure arriving at the Divinci hotel greeted by
extraordinarily friendly and courteous staff. With a special parking
area to leave your vehicle you are escorted up to the reception in the
sky on the 5th floor. A nice idea to move your check in away
from the hustle and bustle of the street. With stunning finishes and
artworks one knows they have arrived at the Davinci. With a seamless
checking we were up in our room in no time at all. The first thing that
caught me entering the room is the stunning use of glass in the bathroom
rivalling anything the Michelangelo has on offer. With a modern look
and feel all the amenities one would need right at your
fingertips EXCEPTIONAL.
After a brief look around it was off to the mall to
find a spot to watch the hugely anticipated Bulls Vs
Stomers local rugby derby. Alas Sandton city ,The Square and everything
around there is not for the sports lover! With most restaurants and
coffee shops not having TVs competing with the FA cup final didn’t help
as Pappas on the Square and The butcher shop both screening the soccer I
caught a glimpse of the rugby on in Montego bay , on enquiring if we
might be able to get a table and what we were told they not open and
only open later and they have always done this and we should leave!
Strange yes as there were three tables occupied by other patrons. Our
search continued and finally lead us to Trumps grill ,with accommodating
staff and 20 minutes into the rugby this was our spot for drinks and
dinner. Trumps took top prize with a great atmosphere cold beer and the
fantastic aroma of ribs in the air! Good food and a great experience all
round VERY GOOD.
After a good meal it was back to the lap of luxury
in our suite in the Davinci hotel. After raiding the mini bar and
relaxing it was time to test the room service which was another flawless
experience offered by this first class Legacy hotels. With only the
finest bed linen and cosy mattress the new day dawned with a huge
appetite for one of my favourite things ,the buffet breakfast. All in
all it was a great weekend spent in Johannesburg except for the foul
taste left in my mouth by the Baby Expo !
