My Footprints .. … ..

A trip around Johannesburg to land in the lap of luxury

My wife who is six months pregnant landed us an
exclusive nights stay at the brand new Davinci hotel in Sandton. Having
stayed at its sister hotel the Michelangelo our expectations of the new
addition were very high to say the least. Having visited a couple of the
Legacy Hotels excellence is expected from first class service to
stunning finishes this is what the Legacy Brand is all about. But
I will begin unfortunately at our first stop on the way to the lap of
luxury, the Baby Expo at the Coca Cola Dome.

One would think this event has been done countless
times and the organizers would know what to expect, thousands of freaked
out parents at their wits end herding their kids to and through the
expo to find that amazing deal. Well I can safely say it was a complete
disaster from arrival, if you were one of the lucky ones to get parking
at the show then the next hurdle would have been to pay your R50 a head
to get through the door, comical is a 15 minute wait but just plain
useless is a 45minute wait just to pay ones money and enter the show. As
one extremely irate father with a 1 year old baby said to the clearly
dazed and confused security guard -where are the managers
?- the guard replied -they sorting the problem
out !- irate man replies -well its clear to see the
problem is right here! Take our money and just let us in !!- Such
a simple task blundered beyond belief. The organizers should be
embarrassed and the exhibitors fuming at a very badly organized show.
With thousands of visitors clearly wanting to spend their money there
they couldnt take the money quick enough. On the Baby city stand you
could expect over an hour wait to purchase that fancy un spill able R30
kiddies bowl PATHETIC.

After heading for the door and swearing we would
never return all I could think of was the upcoming luxury stay at the
Davinci Hotel and relaxing in the bliss of Sandton. Ahh and
what a pleasure arriving at the Divinci hotel greeted by
extraordinarily friendly and courteous staff. With a special parking
area to leave your vehicle you are escorted up to the reception in the
sky on the 5th floor. A nice idea to move your check in away
from the hustle and bustle of the street. With stunning finishes and
artworks one knows they have arrived at the Davinci. With a seamless
checking we were up in our room in no time at all. The first thing that
caught me entering the room is the stunning use of glass in the bathroom
rivalling anything the Michelangelo has on offer. With a modern look
and feel all the amenities one would need right at your
fingertips EXCEPTIONAL.

After a brief look around it was off to the mall to
find a spot to watch the hugely anticipated Bulls Vs
Stomers local rugby derby. Alas Sandton city ,The Square and everything
around there is not for the sports lover! With most restaurants and
coffee shops not having TVs competing with the FA cup final didn’t help
as Pappas on the Square and The butcher shop both screening the soccer I
caught a glimpse of the rugby on in Montego bay , on enquiring if we
might be able to get a table and what we were told they not open and
only open later and they have always done this and we should leave!
Strange yes as there were three tables occupied by other patrons. Our
search continued and finally lead us to Trumps grill ,with accommodating
staff and 20 minutes into the rugby this was our spot for drinks and
dinner. Trumps took top prize with a great atmosphere cold beer and the
fantastic aroma of ribs in the air! Good food and a great experience all
round VERY GOOD.

After a good meal it was back to the lap of luxury
in our suite in the Davinci hotel. After raiding the mini bar and
relaxing it was time to test the room service which was another flawless
experience offered by this first class Legacy hotels. With only the
finest bed linen and cosy mattress the new day dawned with a huge
appetite for one of my favourite things ,the buffet breakfast. All in
all it was a great weekend spent in Johannesburg except for the foul
taste left in my mouth by the Baby Expo !

others walk in your footprints so they dont have to make the same
mistakes

Beijing Olympics & 2010 soccer world cup South Africa

August 22nd, 2008 Posted in Get rating | No Comments »

The Beijing Olympics has been a spectacle pulled off with Chinese pin point precision! I know I have been glued to the various Olympic sports over the past weeks and have been amazed at the precise nature the Chinese have hosted each and every event. The quality of stadiums and sporting felids has been phenomenal to say the least.

Have the Chinese raised the bar on international sporting events? I surely think so. It seems every world sporting event brings huge attention to the nation hosting the event. This will be no different for the 2010 Soccer world cup that South Africa WILL be hosting. Please note the emphasis on WILL!! As we have all heard at some point the usually negative skeptics have been trying to play down the abilities of South Africa hosting 2010 FIFA world cup. This to me is total and utter nonsense!

South Africa has it all, in a country with an economy based on gold but receives more GDP from tourism than gold I would say we are becoming one of the world’s most tourism orientated nations.

So let’s leave the negativity to the usual skeptics! It’s time we all stood up and joined together to pull off the BIGEST SPORTING EVENT AFRICA HAS EVER SEEN!! Soon it will be our time to boast to the world that we AFRICA can do it!

2010 soccer world cup might not have the rigidity of the Chinese Olympics or the formal nature of the German Soccer world cup. We have our own African Flair and offer what the rest of the world just can’t and that is simply the vibe and feel of AFRICA. We have cultures and diversity the rest of the world just doesn’t have.

What can YOU do to create a world sporting event that should make our county proud? This is a question often asked.  EASY . . . lets all join together and start creating a customer service orientated South African consuming public. Don’t stand for poor or second rate service. If you have spent your hard earned money you expect a certain level of service. So in future every time you eat or sleep out at restaurants or hotels in Southern Africa, Go and rate-it .Join the new customer crusaders at rate-it and let’s get service levels in our beautiful country to world class level.

Let’s all help South Africa impress the world!!

Go check it out on the rate-it site just click here LESEDI

Great service in South Africa

May 20th, 2008 Posted in Rate-it launch | 1 Comment »

How does one obtain great service levels in the hospitality industry?

It’s all about guest feedback! You and I can help …

The disturbing thing is that honest reliable guest feedback is seldom obtaind. There are many reasons for this. One of the major reasons being that we just couldn’t be bothered to fill out those tedious comment cards which many of us think just land up in the bin. Generally we only put pen to paper when we are really angry about service or product delivery. We think to ourselves why should we compliment when all was well.

We the consumer public need to give positive as well as the negative feedback to hotel and restaurant operators. We need to do our bit in building great service in South Africa.

Too often we deal with really bad service in our public departments. We have grown accustom to long queues and very long delivery times. We should not have to deal with this poor service delivery when spending our hard earned money on fun lifestyle products.

www.rate-it.co.za now offers a new forum to give constructive feedback initially to the accommodation and restaurant industry. At the same time the rate-it feedback system incentivizes your feedback by earning Rate-it-bucks.R-bucks are great, they earn you discounted or free meal and accommodation experiences in and around South Africa just for sharing your lifestyle experiences.

Let yourself be heard and rate-it

Lets all get South Africa ready for 2010

May 18th, 2008 Posted in Rate-it launch | No Comments »

2010 the biggest sporting event in the world!

Yes we got it! And it’s going to happen. The biggest public relations opportunity Africa has ever had. The people will come in their droves to stay for a month or more, watch the soccer and leave. But will they return?

We no we have a beautifully country with a lot to offer to global tourism but there are concerns .A big question around the travel industry is, are we going to be ready by 2010? At the recent international tourism Indaba show in Durban one would have expected a larger world cup 2010 focus. Not just on the sporting and accommodation aspect but the most pressing issue in the industry - Customer Service –.General service practices in the restaurant trade are also of major concern.

After the flawless 2006 Fifa World cup hosted in German, the world will expect basic service standards to be at an internationally acceptable level.

The general South African consumer’s mentality seems to be one of complacency; its time consumers stood together on a constructive forum and voiced their valid and constructive opinions to build a better service ethic in SA.

At the same time the product owners and managers in the hospitality and food services industry need an unbiased “consumer watch dog” to get the constructive feedback they need in order to achieve and maintain world class service standards.

When the many visitors and potential investors leave the 2010 South Africa world cup, they must leave confident.

We have created a forum for every one to voice their opinions on eating or sleeping out in southern Africa.

Lets all help get South Africa ready for 2010 and beyond by rating it @ rate-it

Getting what you deserve ?

With interest rates rising and oil prices skyrocketing, we all expect what we deserve when we pay for the necessities and pleasures in life.To many of us have had the need to voice our opinions about how great or disappointing our experience have been. This specifically apples to the good things in life, our eating out and accommodation experiences

We all have the right to give our opinions any time, any where and let them be heard ! Publicly and with response.

We can all do it now its easy :

Ask yourself the question : “How strongly would I recommend this establishment ?

Rate-it on a scale of 1 -6 .

- 1 Pathetic

-2 Poor

-3 Disappointing

-4 Good

-5 Very Good

-6 Exceptional

Then simply sms your rating to 34870 ,the establishment name * followed by the location

eg. 5 AJ’s Diner*Rosebank Johannesburg

Your rating gets logged on the rate-it site giving the establishment a SNAP rating, if you are a registered rater you can earn rewards for giving your opinion.

Whether for complements or concerns one can really get there message across simply and quickly on the spot. There is a small cost on each SMS rating sent of R2.00 this is a small price for being heard.

REAL TIME RATINGS AND REWARDS FOR CUSTOMER FEEDBACK

The first independently managed review website of its kind for lifestyle products in South Africa, www.Rate-it.co.za, was launch this week at Africa’s largest travel show, Indaba, in Durban between 10 and 13 May 2008.

The website is expected tp launch 21 May

A web based consumer feedback service, Rate-it provides quality guest feedback via SNAP Ratings by way of SMS and in a more detailed way on internet based questionnaires, on a range of lifestyle products - initially accommodation, food and beverage - with other products and services added at a later date.

All customers who would like to “rate it” first need to register as a member on the website, thus ensuring credibility, where after they can review and rate their accommodation or dining experience in detail by answering five standard questions (Rate-it’s Big 5) designed to facilitate a comparative industry-wide view of consumer perceptions. Subscribing companies, which pay a monthly subscription fee, also have the option to add another 10 questions that can be changed monthly, to assess more specific aspects of their business.
